Esther-Elisabeth Rispens is een veelzijdige mezzosopraan met een onbegrensde nieuwsgierigheid naar nieuwe manieren van performen. Haar artistieke horizon reikt van hedendaagse muziek en experimenteel muziektheater tot klassieke liedrecitals. Gedreven door een constante drang naar vernieuwing, onderzoekt en verlegt ze haar artistieke grenzen bij elk project.

Na haar klassieke zangopleiding stond Esther-Elisabeth Rispens op podia onder meer in België, Nederland, Frankrijk, Duitsland, Oostenrijk, Italië, Griekenland en Hongarije. Haar performances worden internationaal door zowel publiek als pers enthousiast ontvangen omwille van haar uitzonderlijke virtuositeit, haar omvangrijke stembereik en haar doorleefde scenische presence.

Eén van de hoogtepunten van de afgelopen jaren is onder andere haar sterke band met de Biënnale van Venetië, waar ze in 2019 haar debuut maakte in de hoofdrol van A Pirate Who Does Not Know the Value of Pi, een wereldpremière van componiste Lucia Ronchetti. In 2022 werd ze geselecteerd als lid van het Biënnale College, een prestigieus programma voor veelbelovende jonge artiesten. In dezelfde periode vertolkte ze de hoofdrol in Into the Little Hill van George Benjamin in het Müpa Concertgebouw in Boedapest, onder leiding van Gregory Vajda en in een regie van Csaba Horváth. Recenter werd ze geprezen omwile van haar virtuoze vertolking van Sequenza III van Luciano Berio in samenwerking met Not Standing & Alexander Vantournhout in Bozar, Brussel.

Haar liefde voor de theatraliteit van hedendaagse muziek komt tot uiting in het duo Goggles, dat ze samen met Wim Pelgrims (slagwerk) oprichtte in 2020. In 2022 werd Goggles laureaat van de Supernova wedstrijd georganiseerd door Klarafestival, Vlaamse radio. Het duo was in dat seizoen onder andere te zien in Bozar, Flagey, Concertgebouw Brugge en op het Kunstenfestival Watou te Ieper. Tijdens de Bijloke Summer Academy (Gent, 2020) creëerde het duo samen met Belgisch componist Thomas Smetryns de voorstelling A Room. Deze muziek werd vastgelegd in De Bijloke met een CD-opname. In november 2024 maakte Goggles Let’s Be Real (14+) met een première in De Bijloke en in samenwerking met Muziektheater Transparant en componist/regisseur Jonathan Bonny, in een scenografie van Aïda Gabriëls. Let’s Be Real is in seizoen 25-26 onder andere nog te zien in cc Het Bolwerk (Vilvoorde) en cc Sint-Niklaas.

Esther-Elisabeth Rispens is de zangeres van het Nemø ensemble: een jong collectief dat eigentijdse en experimentele muziek in een nieuw en modern jasje steekt. Nemø ensemble was al te gast op podia als  De Singel (Antwerpen) – samen met het Hermes Ensemble -, De Bijloke (Gent), en op de International Summercourse Darmstadt, samen met het Nadar Ensemble. 

Sinds 2023 maakt Esther-Elisabeth Rispens ook deel uit van HYOID voices, een vocaal ensemble voor hedendaagse muziek. Ze zingt mee in de immersieve A-Ronne productie van Luciano Berio (juni 2023 -…), geregisseerd door Joris Lacoste en Claire Croizé, alsook in de productie RELICS in samenwerking met Spectra ensemble (oktober 2023). Beide onder muzikale leiding van Filip Rathé.

Esther-Elisabeth Rispens werd master in de Klassieke Zang aan de School of Arts Gent, in de zangklas van Mireille Capelle (2017). Van 2014 tot 2018 volgde ze ook lessen bij bariton Louis Landuyt, en nadien bij sopraan Donatienne Michel-Dansac (Parijs). Momenteel werkt ze samen met Don Marrazzo (US). Esther-Elisabeth Rispens nam eveneens deel aan diverse masterclasses en muziekfestivals, zoals de International Summercourse Darmstadt (Duitsland), de Akademie für Zeitgenössische Musik in Luzern (Zwitserland), Impuls Festival (Oostenrijk), de Abbaye de Royaumont (Frankrijk).

Esther-Elisabeth Rispens stond al zeer vroeg op de scène. Na haar eerste stappen in de kinderkoren van de Koninklijke Muntschouwburg in Brussel, zong ze op vijftienjarige leeftijd de hoofdrol van ‘Captain’ in The Golden Vanity van Benjamin Britten in de Koninklijke Muntschouwburg. Daarna vertolkte ze de rol  van ‘Becky Tatcher’ in Tom Sawyervan David Miller (Ars Lyrica). Ook creëerde ze op jonge leeftijd het stuk A Romantic Environment van Belgisch componist Thomas Smetryns (Matrix).

Esther-Elisabeth Rispens est une mezzo-soprano polyvalente, animée par une curiosité sans limites pour de nouvelles formes de performance. Son horizon artistique s’étend de la musique contemporaine et du théâtre musical expérimental aux récitals de mélodies classique. Poussée par un désir constant de se renouveler, elle explore et repousse ses limites artistiques à chaque projet.

Après sa formation en chant classique, Esther-Elisabeth Rispens s’est produite sur scène en Belgique, aux Pays-Bas, en France, en Allemagne, en Autriche, en Italie, en Grèce et en Hongrie. Ses performances sont internationalement chaleureusement accueillies par le public et la presse en raison de sa virtuosité exceptionnelle, de sa vaste étendue vocale et de sa présence scénique intense.

L’un des moments forts de ces dernières années est entre autre son lien privilégié avec la Biennale de Venise, où elle a fait ses débuts en 2019 dans le rôle principal de A Pirate Who Does Not Know the Value of Pi, une création mondiale de la compositrice Lucia Ronchetti. En 2022, elle a été sélectionnée comme membre du Biennale College, un programme prestigieux destiné aux jeunes artistes prometteurs. Esther-Elisabeth Rispens est la chanteuse de l’ensemble Nemø : un jeune collectif qui revisite la musique contemporaine et expérimentale de manière nouvelle et moderne. Nemø a déjà été invité sur des scènes telles que De Singel (Anvers) – aux côtés de l’Ensemble HERMES -, De Bijloke (Gand), et lors de la International Summercourse Darmstadt, avec l’Ensemble Nadar.

Depuis 2023, Esther-Élisabeth Rispens fait également partie de HYOID voices, un ensemble vocal dédié à la musique contemporaine. Esther-Elisabeth Rispens is a versatile mezzo-soprano with a boundless curiosity for new ways of performing. Her artistic horizon spans contemporary music, experimental music theater, and classical song recitals. Driven by a constant urge for renewal, she explores and pushes her artistic boundaries with every project.

After completing her classical vocal training, Esther-Elisabeth Rispens performed on stages in Belgium, the Netherlands, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Greece, and Hungary. Her performances have been internationally enthusiastically received by both audiences and critics due to her exceptional virtuosity, extensive vocal range, and expressive stage presence.

One of the highlights of the past few years has been among others her strong connection with the Venice Biennale, where she made her debut in 2019 in the leading role of A Pirate Who Does Not Know the Value of Pi, a world premiere by composer Lucia Ronchetti. In 2022, she was selected as a member of the Biennale College, a prestigious program for promising young artists. During the same period, she performed the leading role in Into the Little Hill by George Benjamin at the Müpa Concert Hall in Budapest, under the baton of Gregory Vajda and in a production directed by Csaba Horváth. More recently, she was acclaimed for her virtuosic interpretation of Sequenza III by Luciano Berio, in collaboration with Not Standing & Alexander Vantournhout, at Bozar, Brussels.

Her love for the theatricality of contemporary music is reflected in the duo Goggles, which she co-founded with percussionist Wim Pelgrims in 2020. In 2022, Goggles was awarded the first prize at the Supernova competition organized by Klarafestival, Flemish radio. The duo performed that season among others at venues such as Bozar, Flagey, Concertgebouw Bruges, and the Kunstenfestival Watou in Ypres. During the Bijloke Summer Academy (Ghent, 2020), the duo collaborated with Belgian composer Thomas Smetryns to create the performance A Room. This music was recorded at De Bijloke with a CD release. Esther-Elisabeth Rispens took the stage at a very young age. After her initial steps in the children’s choirs of the Royal Theatre La Monnaie in Brussels, she sang the leading role of ‘Captain’ in Benjamin Britten’s The Golden Vanity at the age of fifteen at the Royal Theatre La Monnaie. She then portrayed the role of ‘Becky Tatcher’ in Tom Sawyer by David Miller (Ars Lyrica). She also created the piece A Romantic Environment by Belgian composer Thomas Smetryns at a young age (Matrix).
